Our Impact

We partner with individual businesses, government agencies, local and international donors, industry sector associations, technology providersand tertiary institutions who are equally committed to creating positive change.

Today, we pursue this mission by:

  • advancing projects that expand opportunities for more broadly-shared prosperity, and

  • sponsoring programs that help empower people and communities to take control of their physical and financial wellbeing.

10+

Years Serving communities

The Mandela Legacy Foundation has been serving the South African community for over 10 years and will continue to do so for many more years to come.

24+

million DOLLARS raised

Since we started, we have raised in excess of 24 million dollars for community projects, vocational education programs and new job creation.

600+

Thousand people Impacted

So far we have impacted the lives of 600,000 people across South Africa. Our aim is to change the lives of 10,000,000 people over the next ten years.

Our Initiatives

Mandela Legacy believes in a South Africa where all people can earn enough to support their families, achieve financial security, and provide their children with more opportunities. Every day, local governments, businesses, and nonprofit leaders across the country are working to make this dream possible in their communities.

Yet too often these community-driven approaches are missed by those who could invest in them and help them reach more people. This is especially true for efforts in small cities, rural communities and places with high rates of poverty.

We intend to change this.

women in leadership

It is no secret that women have historically faced greater barriers than men when it comes to fully participating in the economy. Across geographies and income levels, disparities between men and women persist in the form of pay gaps, uneven opportunities for advancement, and unbalanced representation in important decision-making.

Women in leadership, however, have proven to be beneficial for both the company and individual employees.

impact sourcing

The Mandela Legacy’s immediate focus is to create a future for South Africa’s youth (15-34) by providing guidance, hope, opportunity and most importantly of all, employment. For these young people, failure to gain an early foothold in the labor market can translate to a lifetime of lower earnings, family and community instability, and a host of other challenges.

better access to education

Mandela Legacy will continue working with the government to strengthen legal and policy frameworks to provide quality education to all children, with a special focus on the most marginalized. Support will be provided in promotion and implementation of a programme - and plan of action - to prevent school dropout and improve the quality and access to education.

She took the apartheid system head-on at huge personal cost in her stand against injustice and went on to serve on the ANC's National Executive Committee and later to become the President of the ANC’s Women’s League.

In order to ensure her lifelong pursuit of political equality, human rights, equal opportunity and social justice would continue, she co-founded the Mandela Legacy.
